Q: I really love the powerful and haunting sound of 'Cursed by Your Love'! Can you tell us what the story is behind the song?
Tricia: Sure! "Cursed by Your Love" is a poetic story of a deep feeling of one's love & desire for someone who isn’t good for them, the person who brings out the worst side which they try to refuse at first but have no power to fight - “Can’t even think of the things you made me do”. The influence of love eventually transforms their identity entirely and there’s nothing else left other than just accepting it.
Q: You created and filmed the music video 'Cursed by Your Love' entirely on your own! That's really impressive. Can you tell us what this video means to you?
Tricia: When I started writing lyrics, I already had an idea in mind about the music video! I knew that I was going to direct it, film it and edit myself because my goal was to deliver the story behind the song not only sonically but visually as well! The song and the video "Cursed by Your Love" are indivisible personally to me.
Q: Besides your own, what would you say is your personal favorite song to sing?
Tricia: Such a good question! I don't think I have a favorite song to sing but my favorite song of all time is "Wicked Love" by Chris Isaak! I truly enjoy singing it of course!
Q: When did you first start getting into music?
Tricia: I've just always loved singing since I can remember myself but I started my first attempts at performing in front of the school audience around 13 years of age. I haven't been able to stop since then, haha!
Q: You graduated from the Academy of Contemporary Music in the UK. Can you tell us what your favorite learning experience was there?
Tricia: Let me be really honest here...Even though it might seem super exciting to study music and do what you love, in reality, my degree wasn't the best learning experience. Prior to my degree, I studied 2-year Music Diploma at London & Hammersmith College which I'd joined as a 17-year old foreign student from Latvia. That was an incredible time for me as I had learned so much & made friends so my expectations for higher education were quite high. However, I found that the degree wasn't so exciting and it was hard to make personal connections with fellow students because our class groups changed every term. Not being local, completely new to the city (Guildford, Surrey), and having fewer chances of making friends/personal connections due to these group changes made my stay there rather frustrating and lonely! Though, I have to admit that I explored all the possibilities of my voice that I wouldn't have been able to do by myself.
Q: You are a singer, songwriter and a producer as well. If you could only choose one thing to do for the rest of your life (sing, song-write or produce) which one would you choose and why?
Tricia: Funny enough...Despite my love for singing I'd prefer to be a producer if only got to choose one option! With singing, you're limited and even vulnerable - you can get sick, you can get vocal trauma, you need a separate space for singing and a certain time in the day for practice because neighbors won't be happy to listen to your singing at night, right? Being a producer you have so much more freedom because all you need is your DAW, a cheap microphone & a pair of headphones! You can sample sounds from literally anything, you can have a cold or flu and still produce at ANY time of the day. Besides, if I'm unable to write and sing - I can always find another singer-songwriter and still deliver my vision through collaboration.
