Q: Can you tell us what 'Good Old Days' is inspired by?
Kelly: I wrote ‘Good Old Days’ during a transitional period in my life - I had just moved from my childhood hometown. While unboxing and trying to find stability in the new house my mom and I had just moved into, I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. I was sitting in an empty living room thinking about when life was a little easier and more predictable. I thought the experience could make for a good song and then the phrase “Whatever happened to the good old days” came to mind. From that point, I started jotting down different memories and emotions from a period in my life that was more peaceful. I then was connected with Joey Auch, he produced and mixed ‘Good Old Days.’ I first began working with him in June 2021 - and this was also my very first time in a recording studio!
Q: You have a really beautiful voice! Can you tell us what first got you into music?
Kelly: Thank you so much! I’ve always been fascinated by the storytelling that goes on in songs and have been writing lyrics since I was 9 years old. Granted, most of my songs at age 9 were about my elementary school experiences and what I ate for lunch that day at school. Fast forward a few years, I began singing covers of some of my favorite artists and uploading those songs to my Instagram in high school. Then, during my first two years of college, my relationship with music shifted. It wasn’t so much a source of entertainment anymore as it was a guide for me, and a way to understand emotions I was feeling. My goal through my music is to help others understand and analyze emotions and experiences they’re going through.
Q: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Kelly: There are so so many artists that I look up to. I really admire JP Saxe, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. I also love Fleetwood Mac.
Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
Kelly: Outside of music, I really enjoy just writing for fun. I love journaling in my notes app on my phone or in physical notebooks I carry around. I’m also still in college (marketing major) so outside of music, I’m studying to finish my degree. I have a pretty large family which keeps me busy - and a cat and a dog who consider me their go-to person for everything :)
Q: What would you say is your favorite line from 'Good Old Days'?
Kelly: I think my favorite line from ‘Good Old Days’ has to be “Remember when a Monday, felt like the weekend?” I think it really encompasses how life has changed so quickly for me - a few years ago I could wake up on a Monday and not think much of it. Now, my schedule has changed and a Monday definitely doesn’t have the same feel as a weekend. With that being said, I actually really enjoy having a planned, scheduled week now. I’m really grateful for everything and everyone in my life right now and wouldn’t change anything.
Q: What's coming next for you?
Kelly: More music! My next single ‘4Walls’ comes out on January 28th, 2022. I’m really excited to put this song out as it shows a side of me most people don’t know. It’s very different from ‘Good Old Days.’ It tells a story I’ve never opened up about before, but I’m ready to share now. Through this, I hope those that listen think “yeah, I get what she’s saying and I’ve been there.”
