Review: "4:05" - Rohin

Rohin’s latest single “4:05” delves into the mindset behind letting go of your stability and giving into an intoxicating lifestyle. There aren’t many things to look forward to in recent days. Every late night seeps blends into the morning until they’re indistinguishable. After weeks of hanging onto happier childhood days, you wonder if there is really a point in changing how you’ve been. It feels as though there is nothing wrong with letting intoxicating fumes consume you and do things you’ll forget the next day. You never truly enjoy the morning and the responsibility each day brings you. You can only dread the days as you crawl through them and crash each night. All you can do is forget each night and wait for the next one to creep ever closer to you.

“4:05” is an indie pop rock anthem that remains consistently fast paced throughout its entirety. From the first note, a fast tempo instrumental leads the charge of this piece. This appears reminiscent of one of the lyrics “It’s slow days, fast nights”, linking its melodic tempo and the overall narrative. This speed is encompassed by the percussive elements that remain largely unchanging until the bridge. The impressive vocal performance by Rohin largely keeps pace and is consistent with each instrumental addition and verse change. During each chorus, more vocal stems and harmonizations are seamlessly incorporated. Each element curates a melodic experience reminiscent of its overall story and themes.

Rohin is a Canadian singer-songwriter currently based in Toronto, Canada. When Rohin was just 18, he wholeheartedly began his pursuit into the music industry and moved to Toronto. He began recording his first few songs, but felt isolated and confused. He used this difficult time adjusting by incorporating his thoughts and emotions into his music. By collaborating with other musicians, he was able to release his music into Part 1 of his debut EP, “so follow me down”. He regularly documents his musical journey on social media sites such as Tiktok and Instagram. Some of his posts include covers of songs by bands such as Bon Iver and Coldplay. Make sure to follow him on social media and give “4:05” a listen!
