JT Foley is back with the first single from her upcoming EP! JT's “Bad TV” places emphasis on the toxicity of a relationship, and effectively utilizes the metaphor of trashy, yet addictive bad television to prove her point. Dishonesty is another recurring element of the track, and JT includes lyrics such as “we’ve both been playing the part” to succinctly explain how both individuals have been deceitful in order to save themselves from getting hurt. JT also paints the picture of a hollow relationship, one where both people are aware of how destructive it has become. The intense emotional highs and lows of toxic love often result in unhealthy habits, and “Bad TV” does an excellent job of bringing those relatable feelings to life.
Now let’s get into how it sounds! The production on "Bad TV" is quite impressive, and the all encompassing tone of “Bad TV” feels reflective and melancholy. The track does an excellent job of harnessing a slow and powerful drum beat in order to express the dysfunctional relationship dynamic she is singing about. JT Foley’s vocals are filled with emotion; they are also textured to the point of feeling vintage. Combined, the style and gritty tone of “Bad TV” reminded me fondly of The 1975’s work. The talent of Foley effectively shines through "Bad TV," and the song truly feels like a fleshed out experience.
Writing songs since she was 8 years old, JT Foley is an LA-based singer/songwriter/lyrical genius who you will want to start paying attention to. She is credited on amazing songs such as "Bandaid On A Bullet Hole" by Olivia O'Brien and "fmk (with blackbear)" by GAYLE. Impressively, Foley has accumulated over 32,000 monthly Spotify listeners and was previously featured on Apple Music's New Music Friday for her debut single "Scaredy Cat". Currently signed to Arthouse Entertainment, “Bad TV” is the first single from Foley’s upcoming EP.
