Natalie Barth Blissful Ignorance Cover Art

When you think you’ve found the person you want to be with forever, it’s hard to let them go. Relationships are all consuming and “blissful ignorance” by Natalie Barth explores that even though a relationship is over, she chooses to stay oblivious and naive as a way of coping with the breakup. Instead of creating new memories with her ex, she’s holding on to what they had. The song opens with “Sitting on the floor, sharing takeout in our apartment/ Never felt secure with anyone before we started” which gives us an insight as to what their relationship looked like. "Every garden had a rose” is a lyric that represents optimism. There’s a famous saying that “every garden has its thorn” but Natalie’s lyrics contradict it. She’s saying that there’s a rose in every garden which shows that she can find the beauty in everything. It’s also wishful thinking that every garden would be perfect, it’s almost like living in a fantasy world where everything is ideal with no challenges or difficulty. That lyric is a perfect definition of blissful ignorance. After she told her mom that they were the one, the relationship was over. She says that she’ll wait for them to come around but worries if she’ll end up being stuck in their relationship forever, not quite ready to move on to anyone new.

“Blissful ignorance” by Natalie Barth is a song about the complex feelings of loneliness and hurt when a relationship is over. Produced by Michael Leto, “blissful ignorance” is a song about not wanting to come to terms with the fact a relationship is done for good. Not just any relationship, but one that Natalie thought was going to last forever. This song is about shielding your emotions and putting your walls back up to avoid getting hurt even more than you already have. It’s an emotional song with acoustic elements serving as the foundation of the track. An interesting producing choice is the other sounds and effects used in the making of the song. It gives the song a new feel, and it’s something I haven’t heard in many acoustic tracks. It definitely makes this song stand out. Natalie is a very talented singer. She’s able to convey her emotions perfectly through her singing.

Natalie Barth is a singer-songwriter from North Carolina. Although she’s been writing for years, she’s just recently become confident enough to share her talents with the rest of the world. Her music fits under the indie-pop genre, and she’s inspired by artists like Lorde and Lennon Stella. Natalie is passionate about creating songs that combine raw emotion and melancholic lyrics with softer harmonies and instrumentation. She’s a verified artist on Spotify and has over 8,000 monthly listeners on the platform. Natalie strives to be honest through her art, which makes her a great storyteller. She’s definitely one to keep on your radar. Check out “blissful ignorance” and give it a listen!
