Review: "Caught In The Rain" - Alvin Weise

Alvin Weise, "Caught In The Rain," Cover Art

“Caught In The Rain” is yet another example of just how raw and vulnerable Alvin Weise is willing to get. As open as Weise was in this song, the lyrics tell a different story of someone who was used to running away from vulnerability. Oftentimes, people view showing emotion as a sign of weakness, but in reality it’s one of the most powerful and freeing things you can do. This song symbolizes how lonely and heavy it can feel when you force yourself to hold everything in. The title “Caught In The Rain” even serves as a metaphor of being stuck in a figurative storm of emotions that seem never ending. But in many cases, the clouds tend to dissipate when we talk about our feelings and seek the necessary help to navigate them. Speaking about what the song means to him, Weise said, “‘Caught In the Rain’ takes me back to a time of loneliness and self-doubt. I was afraid to show weakness, which made me even more isolated. I tried masking my pain, but it all came crashing down. Writing ‘Caught In the Rain’ was both a cry for help and a moment and a moment of clarity.”

Weise’s new single is a song that hits you right in the feels. The track starts off with sounds of rain that are met with a beautiful piano melody that draws you in immediately. As Weise’s vocals came in, I was immediately captivated. His voice was powerful, and also had an endearing warmth to it as well. Weise’s vocals remind me a bit of Lewis Capaldi, whose voice has a similar ache and echoey sound that I heard in “Caught In The Rain.” Along with the piano, the song also incorporated a fun drumbeat that helped build the climactic tension in certain parts of the song. Written, mixed, and produced entirely by Weise himself, “Caught In The Rain,” is a reflective pop gem that everyone should hear.

Alvin Weise is a 25-year-old Swedish pop artist, who has proven himself to be a musical triple threat. Growing up in Stockholm, Weise always had music around him. The artist began playing the guitar at the age of 10 and has never looked back. Weise is also currently finishing his final semester at the Musikmakarna, which is known as The Songwriting Academy of Sweden. Although Weise is still a fairly new artist, he’s already had the opportunity to have his songs attached to some musically historic places. His single, “Starting Over,” which he wrote and produced himself, was mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios. Weise has made a name for himself as a pop artist who’s not afraid to get vulnerable and his latest single, “Caught In The Rain” is no different. “Caught In The Rain” is out now on all music streaming platforms.
