Neon Massacre’s newest single “Hey Siri” is a remastered debut from 2023, detailing the fallout and heartbreak of a short-lived yet impassioned relationship. Chloe Ferguson, the face behind the project Neon Massacre, details her confusion over a relationship that has ended with Siri, iPhone’s digital assistant. “Hey Siri” shares Ferguson’s darkest feelings about the ending of this partnership. She still thinks about him and wonders when she’ll finally forget about him, albeit this person has hurt her. She talks to Siri as a confidante, similarly to talking it out with a friend. However, Ferguson going to her phone rather than a friend emulates the feeling of having no one in your circle who can understand the heartbreak you’re going through— opting for someone who can only listen as you pour your heart out. “Hey Siri” is a special listen, as its poetic story-telling is relatable for anyone going through similar emotions. Ferguson’s fear that she will never get over this person, as she thinks of him “every night”, is a universal experience that creates an instant attachment to the song and its meaning.

“Hey Siri” tugs at your heart strings while simultaneously stunning you with Ferguson’s astonishing voice. Ferguson creates a combination of a folk and pop ballad in her latest track, creating a sound that’s immediately entrancing through her vocal and genre adjustments. “Hey Siri” is sung above an emotional piano ballad, accentuating its raw lyrics. The poignancy of Ferguson’s description of her heartbreaking relationship makes for a song that requires multiple listens to completely grasp the intensity of her emotions during a titular time. Going with the title of the track, a voicemail is played in the background deep beneath a stripped-back piano and drum beat just before the bridge begins. This intermission prepares for the finale of the song, a crescendo that bears listeners to the powerful capabilities Ferguson’s voice holds. This finale to the track provides a satisfying ending to an already mesmerizing song. Fans of Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine, and Noah Kahan will find enjoyment in Neon Massacre’s “Hey Siri” from its poetic lyrics and a simplistic but effective instrumental.

Welsh singer-songwriter Chloe Ferguson is the creator of the project Neon Massacre, producing music that is both poetic and catchy. Neon Massacre’s discography ranges from upbeat pop pieces to hallowing ballads. Ferguson’s pop tracks draw inspiration from synthpop sounds of the 80’s, reminiscent of artists from the time like Tiffany and Wham!. Her ballads that combine folk and pop music showcase both her adept vocals and songwriting abilities. “Hey Siri” is Neon Massacre’s most recent release, a follow-up to her 2024 singles “Cut My Scissor”, “December Valentine”, and “What If They’re Watching”.
