Review: "I Don't Mind" - Elise

I Don't Mind by Elise Cover Art

"I Don't Mind" by Elise is the perfect response to being mistreated, with its empowering message of detachment. The speaker starts the track off with bold confrontation, telling someone she knows about the rumors they are spreading. When someone choses to speak poorly about you without cause, it becomes easy to internalize it. It also is a natural response to want to retaliate. This song will revitalize your self-worth with a message that if someone is acting immaturely and poorly towards you, it is entirely on them. The speaker doesn't waste any time on fighting. Asking the perpetrator of lies to look within themself, this track brings a tantalizing vindication through lyrics like "does it make you feel happy?" The chorus repeats its title, a message of apathy towards the person, and takes the high road with words like "if you mind yours, I'll mind mine."

With a dynamic blend of instrumentals and expressive vocals, "I Don't Mind" will let you get lost in its immersive tune. This guitar-heavy track mixes groovy electric riffs with a rounded strumming acoustic sound. Elise's vocals are edgy and effortlessly smooth as she works through the lyrics. Percussion and piano emphasize the power in the sound of the singing, sounding casual and cool. In the chorus, Elise's breathy vocals are expressive and entrancing. A melodic storytelling that will captivate you comes from the way she uses dark and low vocals to convey a sense of reflective strength while higher vocals are more narrative. This catchy song has a charismatic soft rock and folk sound that tells a story.
