Review: "Last Goodbye" - ACROBVT

Last Goodbye by ACROBVT Cover Art

ACROBVT’s song “Last Goodbye” is a message of moving on fueled by the pain of an uneven relationship. The lyrics begin giving listeners a sense that the match was doomed from the start. The relatable truth is, we can’t see that someone is going to hurt us through the lenses of a naive and lovestruck haze. The lyrics say, “I was thrown in the deep end by a shallow heart”. This metaphor speaks volumes, drawing in connotations of the speaker being left to drown, and understanding that their former partner had superficial intentions. The words demonstrate how wronged the speaker feels, saying “come and take back the knife that you never should’ve pushed so far”. These visceral descriptions of physical harm can really resonate with listeners who look back at a relationship and ask why did my partner have to hurt me like that? The chorus gives a sense of finality, repeating “this is my last goodbye to you”. The lyrics carry relief, vindication and comfort that will make listeners who relate want to sing along.

An upbeat pop rock song, this track uses its sound to empower a feeling of moving on. Dynamic singing emboldens the tune, from vocalizing the word ‘woah’ to open the song with a synchronous feeling of excitement, to the way voices blend in the chorus. The drums and guitar are where the two genres in the song show their heads, with percussion giving an invigorating pop texture to the song and guitar conveying alt-rock emotion. Bold and deep strums of electric guitar give an epic energy to the song, voicing the last minute with power and a grunge attitude. Blending a zestful charisma like Walk The Moon with a rock style like The Glorious Sons, “Last Goodbye” brings an exciting tune to its lyrics.
