Review: "Nightmare" - Natalie Claro

Natalie Claro Nightmare Cover Art

A dark and emotional rock ballad that urges for community and support for those neglected by society. This is what artist Natalia Claro delivers to us with her latest single “Nightmare.” It’s an introspective track that implores the need to limit the bystander effect. You can say a lot of good things about Natalie Claro’s character because this song comes from a place of wanting to make a difference, especially because she plans to donate the royalties she makes from “Nightmare” to Habitat for Humanity and Gaza Kinder Relief. What works with “Nightmare” is how transparent it is, it cuts deep into listeners and moves them to look at their own lives and understand how much they should change. The beauty of music is it has the power to make a difference and it’s so nice to see an artist like Natalie Claro follow this direction.

You can truly feel the sense of pleading in the tones of the guitar and the absolute force that comes in through the rhythm section. The lyrics are built on feeling hopeless with the current system set in place, debunking the dreams of those who view life in a more positive manner. While the song does drive on oversaturating the feeling of being stuck in a world that doesn’t help its own people, it still makes audiences want to change the way things work. The song transforms into a wake-up call to push people to change who they put their faith in and take matters into their own hands. Natalia Claro delivers a great vocal performance as she calls her listeners to action, and it would certainly be interesting to see how much she can experiment with her voice. “Nightmare” thrives because of what it implements, it calls for change and does so in such a musically pleasing format.

Natalie Claro is an artist who uses her art to tackle difficult subjects such as mental health, politics, and more. Debuting in 2017, she has received praise for her songwriting ability and her emotional performances. In the past, she has been involved with Spotify’s Noteable Studios and Hollister’s High School Nation Tour. She has additionally performed at several notable events such as SXSW, Sony’s Balcony TV, and The Knitting Factory’s Woman That Rock Festival. “Nightmare” is a clear testament as to why Natalie Claro is so praised, it’s because she’s an artist who creates sophisticated music that delves deep into subjects that other artists are scared to tackle. This fall she is expected to release more music and perform more shows, as well as go on tour with artist Jhariah in 2025, so don’t go away just yet and continue to tune in to Natalie Claro.
