Review: "Not That Way" - JC x Conor OB

Not That Way cover art

“Not That Way” is a new track made in collaboration with pop newcomer, JC, and rising producer, Conor OB, released on November 8, 2024. The song is about moving on from a breakup. It is about the experience of still wishing the best for someone and loving them, just not in the way romantic way that you did before. JC’s bright vocals shine on the track, as she sings about missing this person, while falling out of love with them. Sometimes, our feelings change, and we have to let go of a person that we really care about. If you've ever been in that complex place, this track is the perfect addition to your playlists.

“Not That Way” marks JC’s first release as a musical artist, showing off her talent for singing and penning honest lyricism. She opens up about the aftermath of a breakup, recognizing how her feelings have changed. She captures this experience by asking about their family, keeping gifts from this person, and wishing their life is not hard. In the bridge, she confesses, “You know I really miss you / But not the way you want me to / And I really love you / But not the way you need me to.” This heartfelt lyricism is balanced by an upbeat, indie pop production that reflects the emotional complexity of a breakup. While it is sad to say goodbye, it also brings peace to accept the change and focus on moving on separately.

JC is a rising pop singer-songwriter, debuting with "Not That Way." The song has already amassed over 9,000 streams on Spotify alone, cementing her as an artist to watch as she continues to further refine her artistry and release more music. Conor OB has also only started releasing music this year with his first track, "Nothing Nowhere Go Home" put on streaming in September. If you enjoyed this song, make sure to check out his other work. You can also keep up with all the latest information on JC, Conor OB, and their music by following the social media links below.
