Review: "Rules" - Melanie Wehbe

Included in her debut EP Bloom, Melanie Wehbe released "Rules." This piece is about the realization that you shouldn't let others control what you say or do and just allow yourself to find your identity. Trying to fit into the mold that society has created stunts personal growth and can dull the beauty of how unique each person is. When speaking about this song, Melanie expressed "The song that, in my opinion, defines my entire artistry. I heard the melodies and lines of lyrics in my head and I realized that something personal was going to be written... I wrote what I think is my (so far) life's work." With her self-empowering track, Melonie creates a comfortable environment for listeners to explore their true selves.

Melanie mixes dream-like beats with dynamic rhythms to create this wonderful piece. The song begins with softer notes with the melody as well as her voice. Her voice has an audible strength to it which holds a lot of emotion. She goes on these small runs after each line which adds depth to the meaning of each and every verse. As the song progresses, her vocals as well as the beat and melody hit a turning point where everything explodes. Melanie bursts into powerful notes while the melody shatters the calm aura the song held. This change in pace electrifies the audience while Melanie sings the lines "I'm gonna say what I'm gonna say" and "I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do." This piece holds such grace and power and captures listeners' attention from beginning to end.

Melanie Wehbe is a multiple gold and platinum-awarded singer and songwriter. Growing up with music in the family she early understood the impact and importance of having music in life. At the age of 14, she started writing songs which quickly became the easiest way for her to express herself. This year, 2022, she will release her debut EP including six brand new personal gems. Melanie explains the EP as a musical journey about finding self-acceptance and finding one’s inner strength and blooming as a person. We’ve seen her as a cover girl on Sweden’s biggest LGBTQ+ Magazine, QX Magazine and after a live show in Luleå, Sweden, a reviewer called her “one of the country’s best-kept secret and best talent”.
