Moncrieff’s newest single, Shangri-La, describes the highs and thrills of a romantic relationship. It is an upbeat, dance pop and adult contemporary song about moments you spend with the person you are in love with. This standard human feeling keeps a lot of us going on a daily basis. Most of us have been in love at least once in our lifetime so we know that exact feeling of euphoria. I would also suggest to watch the music video because it matches the theme of the song perfectly. It shows him running through the fields, dancing around the room with his lover, growing wings, and flying into the clouds. Love makes you feel like you can never come down off that high.
Shangri-La starts with an energetic, fun beat. Then his strong, soulful voice smoothly flows in over the drums in the first chorus. Both the first and second choruses use lyrics like “In the purple haze, I’m lying with you half awake”, “You're the only film in my cinema”, “Just a teenage dream on a movie screen”, and “You give me those eyes and I can't resist” that portray a perfect utopia. The chorus is the kind of irresistible music that makes you break out into dance anytime and anywhere. The bridge repeats sha-la-la-la-la-la four times before it jumps back into the infectious chorus for one final round of euphoria. Because it ends with the same energetic beat it starts with, it makes you want to listen over and over again. This makes the replay value incredibly high. I would highly recommend you add it to your playlist. I already have!
Moncrieff, whose real name is Chris Beheny, is a singer/songwriter hailing from Waterford, Ireland. After losing his brother and sister in a short period time, the rising star moved to London to pursue his music career at 19 years old. He also got to perform on stage as a backup singer to Adele in her BBC special in 2015. Elton John shouted him out on his radio show in 2019. Being noticed by two of the world’s biggest stars was just the beginning for him. He kicked off 2022 by signing with German independent label, Energie Musik. Last year, his song, Warm, hit the top 10 of Irish Radio. He is inspired by Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Etta James, and Jeff Buckley. Be sure to check out his highly anticipated debut album, Maybe It’s Fine, on May 9.
