Allen Miller has gifted us the perfect upbeat song for the Spring season. This catchy tune perfectly describes what it looks like to willingly forgive someone even when they've hurt us multiple times. We don't forgive them because we excuse the pain they've caused, but sometimes we forgive them because living without them hurts more than the pain they've inflicted on us. We can easily relate to the line that says, "If you'd text me / My heart would skip a beat / Baby / All you gotta do is say sorry" because if the person would apologize we'd gladly let them back in. We can further connect to these feelings toward the end of the song. The bridge says, "Tell me you've searched the world / And you haven't found it since / Just say you're sorry / It's as simple as it gets." Even when everyone else is telling us to move on, we hold onto the sliver of hope that the other person will change.
"So Sweet" gives us an upbeat and hopeful tone. We're able to grasp the weight of the overall theme while also tapping our foot to the beat. Even though the music seems upbeat and cheery the mood is a bit somber. We're coming to understand that the artist longs for an apology from the other party. Having the song be both somber and hopeful brings a uniqueness to the piece that is unlike anything we've seen before. The blend of electronic synth, guitar, and drums helps pull the lyrics into the song. All of these elements work together, which helps make the piece perfect bringing it full circle.
Allen Miller prides himself on being a writer first and foremost. He dabbles in indie folk and pop. Allen has said that his top priority is telling authentic, compelling stories. He takes inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift, MUNA, The 1975, and Harry Styles. The inspiration behind the song "So Sweet" comes from a mixture of Sabrina Carpenter's "Short n' Sweet" and Taylor Swift's "Midnights." This song was Allen Miller's first collaboration with Wolf and Love drummer and producer Danny Wolf. Danny Wolf produced and co-wrote "So Sweet" with Allen.
