Review: "THE BADDEST" - Téo Amo

Victoria Fitzgerald

Teo Amo THE BADDEST cover art

Téo Amo’s song “THE BADDEST” is a beautifully complex piece of artistry that delves into complicated themes surrounding relationships. The lyrics tell a vulnerable and widely relatable tale of feeling forsaken and overlooked by someone you love and coping through leveling up personally. However, this does not erase the feelings of desire and longing, as told through the gut-punch of a lyric “You got me acting crazy, but I guess that’s not new / As long as I can come back home to you.” The lyrics perform an impressive balancing act of empowering and vulnerable, which will touch listeners on a deeply emotional level as they confront their personal shadows through the light of Téo Amo’s genius storytelling.

The production and instrumentals of this work do well in complementing the nuances presented in the lyrics. The electronic elements within the backtrack give a moody feel and create a unique modal sound that result in an enticing auditory experience. The powerful trumpet melodies and upbeat percussion track have an atmosphere of excitement. This creates a contrasting emotion that blends powerfully to match the lyrics, once again proving the meticulous thought and care that Téo Amo puts into every aspect of his art and creative storytelling.

Téo Amo is a French-Malaysian artist from Los Angeles, California. He blends styles to create unique artistic experiences for his listeners, and continues to enjoy an ever-evolving sound and personal genre. Past accomplishments include his track “sweaterback” that was featured on numerous editorial playlists on Spotify and “Runaway”, which amassed an impressive 450,000 streams and reached #1 on Hype Machine. He is clearly a visionary of our time. Any seasoned music lover can tell that his artistic genius and deliberate creation is a force to be reckoned with.
