Do you believe in color theory? Do you maybe have synesthesia? Inexplicably, humans have been relating color to personal traits and sounds for millennia. While everyone has a unique experience connecting things to color, we thought it might be exciting to try our hand at it with pop music! So, strap in, come along, and discover a personally recommended modern pop hit based on your favorite color.
Red - Paint the Town Red by Doja Cat
We're starting off strong with red! If your favorite color is red, you likely have no issue standing out in a crowd. You've got unwavering confidence that lights up a room. It might be the obvious choice, but Doja Cat's "Paint the Town Red" is the perfect song to describe your bold nature. In this track, Doja showcases her fierce, rebellious energy, dissipating any feelings of insecurity. It's an ode to moving forward with no regrets, no fears, and no worries about the opinions of others. People who have red as their favorite color exude strong, unbothered auras and often make great leaders, and we think this song embodies those qualities to a T. What do you think? Is this you?
Orange - Saturn by SZA
If your favorite color is orange, you might vibe well with SZA's mellow hit, "Saturn". The chill, soulful piece is deeply expressive, much like you. Maybe you feel things deeply and can't bear to keep them to yourself. Does that sound familiar? You might overthink sometimes, but it's all a part of your healing process. In "Saturn", SZA contemplates the ups and downs of the world, semi-jokingly fantasizing about living on another planet. The lyrics are clever and witty, but real all the same. Maybe you express yourself that way, too, creative and poetic.
Yellow - APT by Rose and Bruno Mars
If you have the pleasure of having yellow as your favorite color, we have the perfect pop song for you. "APT" by Rose and Bruno Mars is an endlessly joyous experience from beginning to end. If you love yellow, you're most likely the most optimistic, playful person in the room. You can make a good time out of any situation, even sitting inside on a rainy day. "APT" is based on a Korean drinking game often played in apartments, proving that fun can be had in small spaces. Rose and Bruno Mars take it to another level, setting the game to the most vibrant, flamboyant pop mix, putting anyone who hears it in a good mood. We think maybe you can do that too.
Green - Apple by Charli XCX
Did you enjoy Brat summer? We did. If your favorite color is green, you might have enjoyed it just a little bit more. (And not just because the album cover is green, I promise.) If you're a lover of green, you might be a deep thinker and a realist. You process what's going on around you with grace and logic. Sometimes, it might feel like not everyone understands the way you think, and that's why we think you might like "Apple" by Charli XCX. "Apple" is often considered the lyrical centerpiece of brat. It expresses so much in a short two minutes and thirty-one seconds. While the track is about Charli's relationship with her parents, it's a deeply contemplative song that can be applied to so many situations. Like much of the album, it's interpretive. If you love green, you're intelligent, open-minded, and tuned in to your surroundings, so maybe you understand "Apple" on a level that others don't. What do you think?
Blue - Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter
If your favorite color is blue, congratulations, because you have the most popular favorite color in the world! This phenomenon isn't all that mysterious, though. There are plenty of reasons why folks gravitate toward blue. It's the color of our sky and our oceans, and looking at blue can have calming properties. That's why we think you have the same smooth, collected energy as Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso". This summer jam embodies chill, suave confidence without a care in the world. As a lover of blue, you carry yourself with a laid-back vibe. When something goes wrong, you'd rather laugh about it than panic. When writing "Espresso", Sabrina noted that she thought the lyrics were stupid, but the track became a huge hit! Instead of wondering why, she's embraced this semi-comedic style of writing for the better, and her fans are loving it.
Purple - Anxiety by Doechii
As a purple fan, you come off as a people person, but maybe you're secretly an introvert. While you are brilliant and accomplished, sometimes the responsibilities can pile up. However, you don't let the negativity beat you. Doechii's "Anxiety" might be a great song to describe how you feel. Set to the instrumental of Gotye's smash hit, "Somebody That I Used to Know", "Anxiety" expresses Doechii's determination to shake off the anxiety and keep a cool head. If you know anything about Doechii, you know that she virtually always appears strong and confident in her music. This is the first of her recent hits that shows some vulnerability. Historically, purple is the color of royalty, a position that comes with many pressures. However, great rulers always shine through the struggles and come out as icons. If you love purple, we think you're destined for greatness.
Pink - Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan
You had to know this was coming, right? A modern pop hit list without Chappell Roan? No way. So, if your favorite color is pink, we think you might love "Pink Pony Club" by the Midwest Princess herself. If you love pink, you radiantly wear your heart on your sleeve. Folks might sometimes say you're too 'extra', but you don't care. You keep doing the things that make you happy, despite what the world might think. You might feel nervous about it from time to time, but the real you always comes out on top. "Pink Pony Club" is exactly that. It's an anthem for those of us who would risk it all just for the freedom to be our truest selves, and we think that's beautiful, just like you.
Gold/Silver - greedy by Tate McRae
If your favorite color is gold or silver, we think you're a total baddie. Not everyone can say they rock a metallic as their favorite color, but you do! Similar to fans of red, you have unwavering confidence. However, you also carry yourself with an almost intimidating amount of independence. You are beyond self-sufficient and don't need to rely on anyone to reach your goals. For that reason, we think Tate McRae's "greedy" is something you'll enjoy. Tate McRae is sometimes considered the Britney Spears of the 2020s, and for good reason. She gives off bad gal energy in nearly every song she releases. "greedy" is no exception, as the song has the star dodging advances from men with total certainty. It describes how it takes a lot for her to open up, but also that not everyone deserves that insight into her mind. If you love metallics, maybe you embody this boldness as well. You don't owe anyone an explanation, and you know that all too well.
White - Fortnight by Taylor Swift and Post Malone
If your favorite color is white, you are in the unique two percent of the world's population who love, technically, every color at once. White is pure light, and without light, we wouldn't have color at all. For that reason, we think your deep, introspective, and possibly philosophic nature pairs well with Taylor Swift and Post Malone's "Fortnight". The track focuses on a two-week-long relationship that both parties can't stop thinking about. However, the song hits some deeper notes that don't necessarily come through on the first or even tenth listen. If you love white, one color just doesn't feel like enough. You're complex and always looking for a challenge. If you're the type of person who enjoys multi-faceted projects, the whole of Taylor's newest album, The Tortured Poets Department is exactly what you're looking for. ,
Black - Disease by Lady Gaga
Don't worry, lovers of the color black, we didn't forget you. You make up a staggering nine percent of the population, despite loving the absence of color more than color itself. If white is every color, black is none of them, but that doesn't take away its brilliant symbolism. For you, we've chosen "Disease" by Lady Gaga. While enigmatic, the song, and especially the video, portrays a song Lady Gaga wrote for herself. It's a track about facing your fears and inner demons. As someone whose favorite color is black, maybe you're enigmatic as well. You're empathetic and nurturing in a way that people might not expect. On the outside, you're a caregiver, but no one really knows what's going on in your head. You choose to fight your battles alone, and that's okay. It's all a part of your personal journey.
So, what did you think? Did your modern pop song fit your personality? Of course, this is all just for fun. We aren't mind readers over here, but we hope you enjoyed the article all the same! Feel free to let us know your thoughts at any of the socials listed below!
