- Review: "Bad For My Teeth" - CJ Jarratt
CJ Jarratt’s “Bad For My Teeth” is about letting someone go who wasn’t meant for you in the first place. Finding someone who shares common interests and values can seem extremely hard. There are so many things to experience with one another and so many questions and answers to be asked. You are at the beginning of a beautiful relationship, one that you really enjoy but there comes a point in every relationship when you realize the connection is lost. It may seem hard and impossible to get yourself free from them but staying around will only hurt you in the end. Losing yourself once and having to rediscover who you are is a long and difficult journey but once you do it you will never do that to yourself again. Instead, you will find better things to occupy your time with, whether it be hanging with your family or friends, new hobbies or even making a beautiful song to remind yourself of past times. While the track is about moving on from someone who wasn’t the greatest partner. It has the mood of a great song with the feel-good instrumentals and rhythms that are played throughout. The guitar and drums combined with the electric beat drops give the song that rock pop feel. When listening to this song it reminded me of nostalgic times and artists not only from the intense instruments but because of the lyrics. Even though it’s a more upbeat soundtrack with a meaning behind that may seem sad, CJ says “…it might help you ask some big questions about whether you’re with the right person or not.” Singer/songwriter CJ Jarratt is from the United Kingdom. Where he has released three singles all within the rock pop realm of the music industry. He started releasing music in 2022 and just recently after a small break he released “Bad For My Teeth.” With the few songs I listened to by Jarratt I was interested as his music compares to artists like MGK and YUNGBLUD, which are two of my favorite artists. I can’t wait to see what else CJ Jarratt has in store for us in his career as he gave us so much energy in “Bad For My Teeth.” As always be sure to follow his socials below and stay tuned for what else is to come. - Review: "Dreams Of Hollywood" - Porscha J
We each form our dreams at a very young age, whether it’s wanting to fly planes, be a doctor or a lawyer and even a popstar. At some point in our lives, we created these dreams because we found a safe place in their roots. We discovered something that we excelled at so greatly and fell in love with it. Like most dreams it may be hard to visualize where it can take you at first and you may have constant thoughts of failure. But taking the risk and diving headfirst into whatever the dream may be will bring you pure happiness in the end. Porscha J brings us these same messages of having a dream and wanting to go live it out through her new single “Dreams Of Hollywood.” The instrumentals give off the feel of a bright summer day with their upbeat melodies. From the tambourine jingles on every beat right down to the soft guitar strings being played at the end. Her vocals shape the song with her amazingly high notes and its beautiful message. The track mentions aspirations to follow your dreams no matter what and I find beauty in that as we all too often don’t hear much of that. Paired well with the vocals are the lyrics like “You say, Dreams come true, you just got to wait, everybody has good days, sooner it will be you.” The lyrics are so beautifully written and extremely uplifting they truly are the heart of this song. The amazingly hearted Porscha J is from Braintree, Essex, England where she is a singer/songwriter. Her single which was made in only a short time has the meaning of something much greater. A trip to California just a few years ago made her fall in love with the iconic and fast paced Hollywood scene. With the tragedies of the LA wildfires and wanting to help, Porscha J turned to music where “Dreams Of Hollywood” was born and used to help charity those who were badly affected. The beautiful meaning behind this song is unlike anything I have ever listened to, and I highly recommend giving it a listen yourself. - Review: "a little bit" - ella boh
“a little bit” is the newest single from ella boh, a song about trying to hide your feelings for someone you’re infatuated with. In the first half of the lyrics, boh explains her crush, and how her mind revolves around them, constantly thinking of them, singing that she has “an altar in [her] head” of them. In the majority of the other half of the song, boh seems to play off her feelings, as if she is speaking to her crush now, singing “i’m a little bit // in love with you” and “don’t wanna be your girl”. It appears boh is unable to express her true feelings to her crush, due to these alternating lyrics. She has much stronger feelings than she is actually letting on. The production of “a little bit” mainly features a wavering and transcendent synth consisting of heavy bass. Also featured are interesting sound effects, such as sampling the vocals to create the effects and some parts of the singing having a filter placed over them. boh is an incredible singer, and her voice really matches the style and vibe of the production, which borders on a sci-fi-esque atmosphere created in the universe of this song. Futurism and dark pop are the main sonically influencing factors of the single. It pairs perfectly with the theme of the lyrics; the powerful synth is alike to the stanzas describing how in love boh is with her crush. ella boh is a music artist from California, originally from Laguna Beach but is now based in Los Angeles. Her musical talents span across many years; from 2017-2019, she posted several covers of songs from various artists on her YouTube channel. Her first released song was the 2018 “Sleep Alone” by Max Styler, which she was featured on. Her debut solo single was released in 2023, titled tetherball . In 2024, she released her debut EP things i can’t feel , and simultaneously a remix album for it subtitled (2am mix) . She has also released music with Charlie Besso in their collaborative project crying on camera , in which they have jointly released a self-titled EP. ella boh is an amazing and very talented artist! - Review: "too close to love" - Alvin Weise
Love is a feeling that is often sought after. Its ability to give you incredible highs and its ability to give you painful lows makes it a feeling that is sometimes feared as much as it is desired. This makes it complicated to navigate for many people. In “too close to love" by Alvin Weise, the song touches on some of this and explores the complexities of love, as well as some of the feelings of anxiety or uncertainty that can surround it. One notable lyric that appears during the pre-chorus, “Too close to love. Too scared to admit we could've been something more", is undeniably relatable to many. Weise brilliantly vocalizes the feeling of hesitance and fear that many people have experienced with relationships that may be platonic, unlabeled, or something in between that slowly leans more into an area of romance. It feels like dipping your toe into water only to pull back when you realize its cold before giving it a chance to fully warm up. In the sense of the song, it is like drawing back from the possibility of a relationship developing since you cannot grapple with the feelings of warmth and yearning that is too close to love. Love goes beyond just being a word. It's such an all-consuming feeling that holds so much weight, the mere idea of it can often feel terrifying which is conveyed beautifully in “too close to love" by Alvin Weise. The pop ballad song initially begins with a more mellow, chill vibe. After a gradual buildup with unique background music, the tempo picks up going into the chorus with a beat drop that adds an extra touch of energy and excitement. The buildup to the beat drop feels like the racing, conflicting thoughts you experience while grappling with the beginnings of the feeling of love but being hesitant about diving into that headfirst. Weise's colorful tone and soothing vocals shine throughout the entirety of the song. Near the end of the song, his soft and powerful backing vocals sound incredibly refreshing with each note making it feel as though you could float away in euphoric bliss. The vulnerability of the lyrics paired with the background music and Weise's bright, gentle tone creates an emotional, almost nostalgic listening experience. The sound of the song is reminiscent of hours spent under the moonlight reflecting about “what-if" scenarios and the possibility to be more with someone, all the while unable to tell if the butterflies in your stomach come from anxiety, the feelings of love, or both combined. Alvin Weise is a Swedish pop singer-songwriter based in Stockholm. He has returned with his latest single “too close to love" released on March 14th, 2025. This follows his previous breakthrough single “Caught in the Rain" which was an unforgettable, radio favorite. Like Alvin Weise's previous releases, “too close to love" is entirely self-written and produced, showcasing his natural talent, dedication to his craft, and his love for music. Weise released his first single “Starting Over" in March 2024, and since then has continued to release more memorable music while growing as an artist. With five singles released in a year, Alvin Weise has made it clear that he is here to stay and share his unforgettable voice and songs with the world. Alvin Weise also aspires to score films in the future, which further serves as an example of his infectious passion for writing and producing music. Alvin Weise is truly a talented, standout artist with a natural born gift and drive to create beautiful music that is rare. Everyone should keep an eye out for the other projects he will release in the future. Seeing Alvin Weise continue to grow as an artist and make his mark on the world will be an amazing thing to witness! - Concert Review: Jake Minch - The Drake Hotel in Toronto, ON
Bringing his alternative indie-pop tunes and confessional charm to Toronto, Jake Minch performed in the Drake Underground on March 8th, 2025. As the opener for Grace Enger's invigorating "It's So Fun" tour, Jake ignited a spark in the crowd that warmed up the night. He came out onto the stage and opened with a soft acoustic guitar picking pattern sounded before delving into the lyrics of his original song, "strip mall". Expressive vocals, nearly speak-singing at parts of the song, gave a comforting feeling as Jake merged into other original songs and his only cover of the night: a beautiful rendition of Phoebe Bridger's song "Funeral". It's truly incredible what deep lyrical storytelling and soothing guitar melodies can do to an audience, offering a captivating musical journey. Quite simple in presentation with a stool, microphone, and black Takamine guitar against a plain white T-shirt, the show took audiences through complex worlds of feeling through music and Jake's authentic charm. The Connecticut-based singer spoke to the crowd, garnering a few laughs about a long line at a pizza place and other notable Toronto-isms, before diving into his song "jessie". A palm-muted sound and resonant picking pattern invigorated the venue as progressive volume and vocal passion emerged throughout the song. Matching the power of his beautifully raw and throaty singing, Jake strummed his guitar with an immersive force to end the song. Jake Minch performing "jessie" at the Drake Underground Through witty and honest commentary interspersed between the songs, we got a look into Jake's songwriting mind. He even shared "I told a lot of people who this was about" when before playing a personal unreleased song about sibling conflict as an adult, with meaningful delves into reminiscing and difficult facts of life. His evocative singing and pronounced strumming infused the air with a bittersweet swirl of memory and loss. The way his vocals and instrumentals ranged in tune, tone, and volume was a captivating display of emotion. Aptly describing his next tune in the lineup, Jake introduced "a song about cigarettes and the smell of cigarettes and crushes". This song "fingers and clothes" carried a whimsical air that had Jake's body moving with the jaunty pattern of the chorus. At the end of the song, Jake cracked up laughing and the audience was right there with him, enjoying the upbeat spirit of the show. When Jake played his song "handgun", the venue lit up and sung along. The way the words take you into a place of memory and closeness through the verse before delving into the questioning of the chorus feels extremely relatable and natural. With audience voices joining in, the Underground filled with a feeling of understanding at the lyrics "the worst part of growing up is learning how young you are." There is something so genuine about that line and the emotions it evokes, so much so that it elicited cheers from the crowd. After hitting hard with that emotional, introspective tune, Jake lightened the mood, saying "I have one upbeat song, and this is that one song." Jake Minch performing "when i walk you home" at the Drake Underground With slightly percussive guitar and soft vocals, he performed "whose you are", an uplifting song infused with self-love and optimism for those you love. His song explored how romance can lift you up with emotional, gritty, and wholehearted voicings of powerful lyrics like "there is so much more to life". The front row was literally jumping along. Closing his set with the first song he wrote, one that came to him in a dream, called "when i walk you home". With a floaty, airy, and intimate atmosphere, Jake's soft vocals and deliberate guitar marked a warm end to his performance. Following Jake Minch's opening performance, Grace Enger took the stage, with her electric and powerful vocals supported by bold percussion, piano, electric guitar, and her own guitar talents. Moving passionately through her songs, many of which were from her latest EP, "The Alchemist", she put on an immersive performance all the while ensuring the audience was happy, healthy, and taken care of, kindly checking in on a fan through a fainting spell before delving back into the show. Her music filled the Underground with energy, as the crowd sung and danced with her invigorating set. This concert truly fulfilled my indie music palate with Jake Minch's performance starting off the night on a intimate indie-pop note, then diving into Grace Enger's freeing indie pop-rock sound. - Review: "Dance With Me" - Julia Klot
Dance is many things. It serves multiple purposes. It looks like many things. It looks like the meticulously organized and rehearsed performance at the ballet. It looks like the sweaty and fun mess that one envisions of a late-night club. It looks like the intimate dance of a freshly married couple. “Dance With Me” serves as an anthem depicting the feeling of freeing oneself and giving into the urge to move and dance. In this song, music is not a product to be consumed, but rather an opportunity. An opportunity to release oneself and express any and every feeling, spanning from beautiful to unpleasant. It is a wonderful work that talks about letting go of expectation and existing in one’s body as they are. This track reflects the vibrancy that we typically associate with dance. Elements of this piece are dynamic and expressive. The chorus is infectious and will no doubt stick with listeners beyond their initial experience of this song. Syncopation and punchy synths add to the exciting atmosphere beautifully, inspiring listeners to get with the groove. Layered instrumentation is the paint that Klot uses to paint the wonderfully uplifting picture in this song. Klot’s voice rings clearly over the track, and delivers the lyrics with the correct tone and attitude for this song’s intended purpose. Klot does not just create a song. Rather, she creates a wildly fun and creative experience for audiences everywhere to enjoy When Julia Klot was six years old, she began taking piano lessons. Within these lessons, she learned the conventions of songwriting from her teacher. This began her music career, and she released her debut self-named album in 2014. She is based in New York City, New York, and takes inspiration from artists such as Fiona Apple, Carole King, and Elton John. Since her debut, she has released two EPs. Her artistic taste and musical intellect are nothing to overlook. Julia Klot is a force to be reckoned with in the modern musical landscape. A lot of life is the pursuit for balance. Nurture a relationship while enjoying your youth. Building a family while establishing a career. The endless chase for balance can cause distress in some cases. This is illustrated by Lauren Presley’s “Can I Be Happy”, in which she demonstrates the mental battle between self-acceptance and self-improvement and endless expectations being underwhelmed by unfulfilled goals. There is a feeling of almost yearning as difficult feelings are reflected upon. Presley’s vocal tone is strong, yet vulnerable. Complimenting the subject matter nicely, her voice invites listeners to not just consume the song, but rather experience it with her. - Review: "Narcissist" - Jasmine Matthews
To find a vulnerable reflection on the experience of being confined in a toxic relationship, one has to look no further than the song “Narcissist” by Jasmine Matthews. Whenever someone is overly involved and concerned with themselves, it becomes exceedingly difficult to form a connection with them. Matthews illustrates this experience of being forsaken by someone due to their self-obsession in a beautifully artistic way. This work has a central theme surrounding manipulation and will speak to those trapped in relationships where it is a battle to earn the attention of one’s partner. The melodic content is both haunting and vulnerable. “Narcissist” will no doubt resonate with those who have had to fight these battles and offer them a source of both understanding and healing. We often spend our time digging deep into the rabbit hole of expectations. We blindly follow them until we are doing more harm to ourselves than good. We want the praise and satisfaction of pleasing everyone around us, but the reality is we only need to be happy with ourselves. - Review: "Fading Out" - Misha Mandy
It has become universally understood that women are supposed to give. They should take care of their families, they should nourish their relationships, and they should nurture those around them, sometimes at the expense of their own wellbeing. However, putting one’s partner as a priority over oneself is a toxic dynamic. “Fading Out” by Misha Mandy, released on March 8th in honor of International Women’s Day, calls upon women and girls to abandon this notion. With lyrics such as “Take that pedestal / Burn it down,” this empowering track inspires listeners to abandon relationships and situations that take without giving. In a world that romanticizes the experience of being someone’s girlfriend or wife, it is increasingly refreshing to hear a piece of media that encourages personal development and self-respect in women even if it costs a connection with another. The instrumental has an almost sunny feel. The guitar drives the chord progressions and is supported by an upbeat drum groove. With warmth enveloping every aspect of this track, it beautifully supports the message of rediscovering one’s self worth. The track evokes the auditory experience of a love song. The track reflects hope, optimism, and growth, similar to what one would expect of a typical romantic pop ballad. However, this song is about redirecting the love we would give another and reflecting it back onto ourselves. Whenever we meet someone, we want to give them our best. We want to give them the beauty and hope that is heard in the texture of this tracks’ instrumentation. However, this track calls upon listeners to redirect these gifts back to ourselves, and not let another’s existence out-shadow our own. The harmonies in the vocals and enticing backtrack tie this message together beautifully and have a sense of both tradition and innovation in music making. Based in Brighton/London, Misha Mandy is an independent artist that specializes in powerful vocals and the blending of synth-pop sounds with the palette of traditional Americana sounds. Currently she majors in Music M.A. at the Waterbear College of Music. Misha is making waves in the modern music environment with her writing and performing. Her storytelling is raw and real. Not only does she perform for her audiences, she connects with them, creating songs that are tasteful and relatable. Creative methods of genre-blending, authentic writing depicting self-empowerment and confidence, and a clear technical ability in singing and performance are mixing together in a beautiful cacophony that will no doubt allow Misha Mandy not to just establish a career, but to create a legacy Written By Victoria Fitzgerald FOLLOW MISHA MANDY: Instagram | Spotify | TikTok | Facebook | YouTube *Sponsored Post - Discovered on Musosoup. - Review: "Boy" - Zerllia
"Boy" is the latest single from pop newcomer, Zerllia, released on March 14, 2025. The disco pop track is inspired by a culmination of her experiences in past relationships with people that often had this 'boy' mindset, and there really being this toxic infatuation. She channeled this frustration into an anthemic song, sassily clapping back at her exes for their behavior. For those who have their own stories about balancing love and self-preservation, this track is one that will resonate with you deeply. With a blend of snappy lyricism, danceable production, and bright vocals, "Boy" is a must-listen. The track kicks off with Zerllia singing about being in relationships with people who lied and cheated and lost her trust. In the earworming chorus, she rhetorically asks, "Why you gotta / Why you gotta / Why you gotta / Be a boy." As she puts it in this release, this 'boy' mindset can be toxic and manipulative. She gets candid about feeling hurt and like she was drowning, while also reclaiming her individualism. Blending electro-pop, R&B, and disco sounds, "Boy" is an engaging track that narrates Zerllia's journey from feeling so caught up in infatuation to recognizing that it wasn't really love. Zerllia is a rising pop artist from Sydney. She only put out her first track, "Ain't Going Home," in March of 2024. Her music tackles topics like love and self-discovery with multigenre-infused production and infectious pop hooks. Fans of other artists like Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, and The Weeknd will be drawn into Zerllia's bold approach to pop music. - Review: "High" - Dansy
Dansy’s new single “High” brings us an amazing blend of nostalgic pop while wanting to break free from a lover’s control. It becomes a painful point in someone’s life when the person they thought loved them, turns out to be nothing more than an act. We sit and wish that their actions will somehow change but they only end up worse. With endless thoughts of how we can change them by expressing our deepest feelings and emotions. But ultimately, they take advantage of those feelings and show their true self. Leaving us perfectly content with breaking free from their manipulative hold. Click here to listen to "High" As I sit in the empty, quiet library, sipping on my morning coffee listening to this song at a relatively early hour, the only thought running through my mind after just the first ten seconds was to get up and dance around. Dansy’s whole song has so many relatable aspects to it from the lyrics she sings right down to the throwback pop melodies played on the guitar and drums. Paired with those explosive instruments is her intoxicatingly great and dynamic vocals which she ranges perfectly at every verse. She starts off singing in a neutral manner as if she is having a casual conversation, then shifts into an energetic, catchy, tone that makes you want to never stop listening. “High” is mixed with many emotions, and you can hear each of those from start to end. The brilliant singer/songwriter that is Dansy is from Melbourne, Australia. She started releasing music in 2021 with her first single “Wish U Could” and has released ever since. Her music has that alternative pop rock excitement making it the perfect genre for any day. I seriously can’t wait to see where the talented Dansy’s musical journey takes her next.
